SERVICE AND INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIPS: GETTING TO KNOW LAURA EN ESPANA
Laura Bess is one of my oldest friends, and more importantly a spiritual buoy for me ever since we met going into high school. Even since then, she has dreamed of serving people and families in marginalized and unhealthy situations internationally. Back then, she imagined herself as a nurse working with a medical mission, but as she grew up, her life changed course a bit, and she found herself in HR for a prominent pediatric neurological firm here in Austin. She ran that office, and did a excellent job - in her career there, she began to see how her administrative skills could be used in ways beyond the corporate world, and when an opportunity came to join a team serving internationals in Barcelona, Spain, she jumped at it. It's been really fun to watch her journey this whole way, and when she asked me to create a brand to help her share her work with others, I was more than happy to do it.
In terms of the logo design, it was important for me to create a look that was both indicative of the wrought iron and intricate detail found in so much of Barcelona's architectural design, as well as capture the essence of naturalistic Barcelona. The more I looked into it, the more I realized what a naturally beautiful place it is. Situated in between soaring mountains and crystal blue sea, it is easy to see how the arts culture there has thrived for hundreds of years, and I wanted to reflect that in the design as well. I also wanted to create something feminine and memorable, as Laura would be using the logo in a variety of formats, not only online.
